The HUGE List of Photography Tips, Tricks, Tutorials & Resources [Updated] #Affiliate

Almost two years ago (okay, one and a half-ish) I posted a list of photography tips and tricks I titled The Huge List of Photography Tips, Tricks, Tutorials and Resources. I had hoarded photography resources on my Pinterest account for nearly six months prior. I was one month post-first nursing job and desperately looking for something else to devote myself to. Blogging about photography seemed like a reasonable enough goal, given my previous experience in digital photography and fine arts. I ran outside, snapped a photo of the tree branches with my new DSLR camera, copy and pasted the list of resources I had come up with. Then I posted it, shut my laptop off and went to bed.

What I didn't know is that it would become my most popular blog post at Knittering In Appalachia. My spur-of-the-moment blog post has been viewed 11,129 times (and counting) on this blog alone. According to my Pinterest account, it's been pinned nearly 1K times, although I'm pretty sure the number is higher - I just can't see all of the statistics from nearly 2 years ago.

Things have changed. My view of blogging and photography has definitely changed, although I'll admit I wasn't aware of just how much has changed until I read this post about updating older content. It was enlightening, to say in the least.

Which brings me to this blog post. This resource list has been updated several times to add new resources, but it's time to give it new life. You won't just find new tips, tricks, and tutorials here - you'll also find recommendations and reviews at the end of this post for the photography equipment that I use.

As always, I am open to linking up to new resources and blog posts, so if you would like me to add some of your own resources, all you have to do is drop me a comment below or email me. My goal is to make this list of resources as comprehensive as possible - which means I need your help to do it!

Photography Equipment That I Use:

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 - This is the older version of Lightroom (6 is available now) but seeing as how it was the first photo editing program I purchased, it continues to serve me well. At a fraction of the cost of the full Photoshop suite, Lightroom fit my photography editing needs perfectly.

Digital SLR Photography All-in-One For Dummies - The Dummies books aren't just for dummies…I have continued to use these books for photography, blogging and any other subject I need to refresh on. They're actually quite informative, and have a take-you-by-the-hand approach that I really like.

Nikon D3200 For Dummies - I bought a Nikon D3200 a few years ago, so this was a must for me. I still use this when I have questions or I don't know how to use a certain function on my camera. There's versions available for the Nikon D3300 (as well as various Canon cameras), as well.

Complete Digital Photography, 8th Edition - I own the 5th edition of this book. It is a comprehensive and thorough guide to digital photography that will walk you through all of the nitty-gritty details of using the different parts of your camera, creating composition, editing your photographs and more. I used this book for my digital photography classes in college. I highly recommend it.

AmazonBasics 60-inch Lightweight Tripod with Bag - There are more expensive and advanced tripods available, but this one was great for me as a beginner. This is also a relatively frugal choice for tripods, so when you outgrow it or need a new one, it won't be a big deal. Added plus: it comes with its own case.

Nikon D3300 DX-format DSLR Kit w/ 18-55mm DX VR II & 55-200mm DX VR II Zoom Lenses and Case - I have listed the newer version of the bundle/kit because it appears that the Nikon D3200 is no longer being manufactured by Nikon. Because I use the D3200 and not D3300, make sure any accessories that you purchase fit the D3300 should you choose to purchase that model. I can, however, speak to the quality of the Nikon bag and the leather lens cases that are included with the lens, as well as the general quality of Nikon products. I was, and still am very happy with my purchase nearly 2 years later.

3 Year SmartGuard Camera Accident Protection Plan - I know this to be true about electronics: accidents happen. For under $50 I was able to protect my camera for 3 years. You can also choose as little as 2 years or as long as 4 years (length is based on value, so be sure to pick the right value of your camera in the drop down box).

Nikon Remote Release Cord - When I initially bought this, I thought I would only be using it for nighttime photography, but I was so, so wrong. I quickly discovered that I have shaky hands. I use this all the time now, and I haven't had any issues with it so far.

SanDisk Extreme 16GB Memory Card - There is also a newer version of this memory card available. I still haven't had to "empty" it yet to make room for more photos.

Vanguard VS-82 Tabletop Digital Camera Tripod - This is essential for close up shots. It works well with my Nikon 3200 and is small enough that I can usually leave it in its box when it's not in use.

There you have it…photography tips, tricks, tutorials, resources, and even some recommendations for you to think about. Let me know what you think in the comments!
